Specification of Maltol and Ethyl Maltol
Ethyl maltol and Maltol give caramelic, sweet note to fragrance. As written in many literatures and what I have realized and believe is Ethyl Maltol aroma is 10 time more powerful than Maltol. Both are aligned toward Candy note.
Then why every Perfumery lab keep both Ethyl Matol and Maltol?
The reason is together they give synergic effect.
It was assume earlier that it can blend only with Vanilla, caramel, candy, fruity or sweet note, but now it is proven that this is one of versatile material.
It can blend with any fragrances, either Floral, Fruity, Aromatic, oriental, spicy or any.
Ethyl maltol and maltol gives master signature note to Oriental and Floriental Note. Oriental fragrance will be incomplete without use of Ethyl Maltol and Maltol.
Dose may vary from 0.001 to 10% (Keep in mind - there is one thumb rule in perfumery that there is no rule).
Best example of some famous fragrances which have high percentage of ethyl maltol and Maltol is Angel by Thierry Mugler, Opium by YSL, and Fantasy by Britney spear.
Apart from them there are unlimited numbers of perfume available in market which has Ethyl Maltol and Maltol.
1. Caramel :
It blends well with caramel, Honey note, Chocolate, Hazel Nut, Coco, Coffee, Gingerbread, and Butterscotch.
2. Pink Fragrance :
(Floral-Fruity will describe more elaborately about Pink fragrance in some other article)
Matol and Ethyl maltol goes very well with cotton flower, Pink Sugar, Raspberry, Apple blossom, Cherry blossom note.
3. Fruity Fragrance :
Matol and ethyl maltol gives sweetness and mouthwatering effect on Strawberry, Apple, Mango, Papaya, Jackfruit, Banana, and Peach.
Even some time Depthless in Green Fruit will added by use of Ethyl maltol and Maltol. Like Green apple, Cucumber, Musk Melon etc.
Pink sugar by Aquiline, Flower bomb by Victor and Rolf, La vie est Belle by Lancôme are some of famous fragrance which have amazing role of Ethyl maltol and maltol.
No one can grant success of all these perfume without these two important unique ingredients.
